Johnny

He listened as the front door closed softly, as she put her keys in the dish on the table in the hall and began to quietly walk up the stairs.  He tried to keep his breathing slow and even as she opened the bedroom door.  Covered with the comforter, the light from the hall still showed how much weight he had gained over the years.  She went into the walk in closet; he could hear her packing but couldn’t bring himself to move.  She came back and stood over the bed looking at him.  Still, he didn’t move.  “Are you going to say anything Johnny?” she asked him quietly.  “Are you going to fight for me?” she shouted.  Still, he didn’t move.  He could hear her sobbing as she went down the stairs and rolled over only when the front door slammed.

I could feel both of their pain and her anger. Did he tell her go because of the weight he gain and felt he didn’t deserve her?

  2. Steve Paluda says:

Hi Julee! Thanks for the input!
He doesn’t deserve her but the weight gain and not stopping her are driven by inaction caused by a slowly growing fear.
