Character questionnaire problems

Is anyone else having or had problems with the questionnaire’s?

I feel like I’m forcing information out of my character. I’ve always treated my characters as people, I need to earn their trust to get information out of them and the questionnaire’s get very personal very fast. I sort of see it as you wouldn’t walk up to a random person in the street asking all these questions so why should a character feel obliged to answer all these questions.

Any tips on how to get over this bump or do I just need to suck it up and get the information out?

One Response to Character questionnaire problems

  1. David Anthony says:

Hi, just joined. Maybe you could pretend to be the character you are trying to get information about. Like if one of my characters was a five-year-old-boy with a scar across his forehead. From the perspective of the boy, maybe he has no idea how he got it. Maybe it happened when he was an infant. Perhaps is Mom calls it his smart-line, but his Dad always frowns and looks away whenever it is mentioned. Reasons: Maybe his Dad got drunk and accidentally dropped the kid cutting him on the edge of a hard piece of furniture or a ceramic object. Maybe the Mom cheated on his Dad and His Mom’s former lover hurt him. Maybe his Mom is or was crazy and cut him. Maybe He was born with it. Maybe he was surgically altered from some freakishness of his birth like a Siamese twin? This could on and on. I find this sort of thing helps. I hope it helps you too.
